What is a Poll Worker?

A Poll Worker is a community-minded person just like you who wishes to be part of the election process. Poll Workers perform a valuable community service by assisting fellow voters at the precinct polling sites on Election Day. Among their duties are ensuring voters are at the correct precinct, issuing ballots, giving voting procedure instructions, verifying voter registration, operating voting equipment, and maintaining orderly flow at the polling site.

Poll Workers are not volunteers. They are paid per election, the amount depending on the position they fill.

These positions consist of:

The Clerk, who is the polling site manager

The Assistant Clerk, who helps administer site activities

The EViD Operator, who runs an electronic poll-book to verify voter registration

The Voting Machine Inspectors, who operate the voting machines and assist voters as required

The Deputy, who maintains order outside and inside the polling site.  The Deputy is selected by the Elections Office, but is vetted and sworn in by the Columbia County Sheriff.

If you are interested in being a poll worker, you may contact

Precinct Support at 758-1026 ext. 3111
